I work primarily in oil on canvas. My approach to the subject of the steam railway is heavily influenced by the postcards produced around the turn of the 19th - 20th century by Raphael Tuck and sons. There was something of a postcard boom around that time and one of their most popular lines was the 'Oillette' series. The company commissioned renowned artists to paint the crack express trains of the day. They sold in their thousands, mainly in railway stations and are very collectable today.Â
I aim to try and capture the feel and simple style of these works. I also undertake commissions.Â
